Website Planning with PC Drama

Invest in a web designer for a 'Great' website

How will a designer meet the expectations of this business? By understanding some basic elements of web design, a business will have the necessary insight into planning the scope of their website.

Website Development

What are your goals for your website?

  1. Why do you want a website? | Three popular goals are brand awareness, making money, and building trust.
  2. Do you want to add a feature to an existing website?

If your site is down and your last web developer is MIA; we can help manage or recover your website.

Setting the scope of work with clear expectations

There are three keys to ensuring the success of a project.

  1. Define the purpose of a website by identifying the target audience.
  2. Provide the content and objectives.
  3. Tell us about your PC Drama.

Content and Design

By providing purpose and content we can prevent unnecessary loss of valuable time. Michelangelo carved beautiful works of art from relatively plain blocks of marble. His famous quote “I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free.” Many artists know this quote by heart. As Michelangelo carved away, the content for this slab of marble merely existed in his thoughts. A web developer must sculpt from their client’s imagination.

Delivering your ideal website, why do you need content?

Without website content, a client will typically ask for their site to "look cool" or to “copy another website.”  This is a rabbit hole full of trouble because writers and developers are not synonymous. Asking a developer to build a site without providing any content will result in a longer than expected wait time and increase the total cost of the project until both sides settle for either “get it done” or “ok, this is good enough.”  These are dangerous words when taking on a web project because one party either the web designer or customer could feel cheated or resentful.

One responsibility of a web designer is to set realistic expectations and boundaries. This mutual understanding of the work needed to deliver the website will determine the scope and the price for that work. Web designers have the dual task of styling the framework for the content and creating functionality for s website.  We may or may not create graphics, logo designs. I would provide minimal levels of SEO as far as addressing load time and metadata visibility, alt tags for images, etc.

SEO

Ever click a strange link like this? pcdrama.com/post?asdfasd77783

The reason Google and people prefer links with relevant keywords is the link itself.

This URL: pcdrama.com/web-development is preferred over pcdrama.com/post?asdfasd77783

Web crawlers love alt image text, title, meta description and represent your page with a default ogimage that displays a viewable image when sharing the link.

Backlinks create visitor traffic

linking to your website from another website or social media platform. The more people share your page, the more visitors. This increase in visitor traffic will increase the chances of engaging visitors, gaining a lead, or prospect to a new customer. In all instances, they're spending more time on your website.

Structured Data

There is more crawler info that would benefit a page than what can be seen. Structured data defines a page to crawlers and enables you to feature a video or an image within the link preview when searching Google.

Functionality

I want to believe that functionality is only as good as the ideas backing the website.

  • What happens when a lead fills out your contact form?
  • Do they get a welcome message or a response that gives them a shared file or pdf?
  • Do they get a follow-up message asking them for more details in a personal way?
  • Perhaps you need a connection to grab and update ticker data from the NASDAQ or an oil well calculator to justify the next Joint Venture?
