Generative AI
A class of artificial intelligence models designed to generate novel data (such as text, images, audio, or code) by learning patterns from existing data sets.

- Plain English
- Generative AI refers to models that learn patterns from existing data and then produce brand new text, images, audio or code that resemble it.
- Example
- A red team uses a text generator to draft a convincing spear-phishing email in the exact tone of a company's internal HR announcements, then uses a voice model to clone the CFO for a follow-up call.
- Why it matters
- Generative models lower the cost of convincing fakes, can leak what they memorised from training data, and can be steered into producing harmful content. Defenders must treat outputs as untrusted.

- It does not copy the data, it learns the style and improvises.
