Program change made while the controller remains connected and, where supported, continues running.
The Explain card
- Plain English
- An online edit changes the program while the controller stays connected and, on most platforms, keeps running. The edit is tested on the live machine and then accepted or cancelled.
- Example
- A timer preset is too short and parts jam. The engineer changes the value online, watches two cycles run clean, and assembles the edit into the running program.
- Why it matters
- Production keeps running, which is why the plant loves it. The same edit that fixes a jam can also start a motor the moment it is accepted, so know what the rung will do before you finalize it.

- Surgery on a patient who is still working.
