Local / Remote
Selection between commands and references from the drive interface and those from external terminals or communications.
The Explain card
- Plain English
- Local and remote select where the drive takes its commands and reference from. Local means the keypad, remote means the terminals or the network, and the drive listens to only one at a time.
- Example
- A technician switches a drive to local to test the motor from the keypad, and forgets to switch it back. The PLC's run command and reference are ignored until someone notices.
- Why it matters
- Half of all drives that refuse to start from the PLC are in local. It is a mode with its own indicator, and it should be part of the check before anyone opens a laptop.
