Fault
Protective condition that normally stops or inhibits drive output and requires the cause to clear before reset.
The Explain card
- Plain English
- A fault is a condition that stops the drive. Output is removed, the motor coasts or is braked according to the settings, and the drive stays stopped until the cause is gone and a reset is given.
- Example
- A drive trips on overcurrent. The fault code shows on the keypad, the fault relay changes state, and the PLC sees the fault bit until someone resets it.
- Why it matters
- Faults are the drive protecting itself, the motor or the machine, and a reset without a cause found is a promise to see the same fault again. The code and the operating data captured with it are where every diagnosis starts.

- The drive stopping on purpose and waiting to be asked why.
