Consistency

- Consistency is the principle that an AI system behaves reliably in real-world use, producing similar outputs for similar inputs, avoiding erratic behaviour and holding to its ethical standards every time.
- Example
- A content filter that blocks a harmful request phrased one way but allows the same request in a slightly different wording is inconsistent, and attackers will find the wording that works.
- Why it matters
- Inconsistent behaviour is both a quality problem and a security hole: it means controls can be evaded by rephrasing, and it makes outputs hard to test. Defenders probe with paraphrases and repeated runs to measure it.
