Platform engineer

A role that provides the shared infrastructure that teams use to experiment and deploy safely

The Explain card

Plain English
A platform engineer provides the shared infrastructure that teams use to experiment with and deploy AI safely: compute, storage, networking, identity and the guardrails around them.
Example
They build the internal AI platform with isolated GPU workspaces, a secrets manager, network policies that keep training jobs away from production data, and templates that give every new project logging and access control by default.
Why it matters
Secure defaults at the platform layer protect every team at once. If the platform enforces isolation and least privilege, individual projects cannot easily opt out.
Hook
Paves the road so nobody has to drive through the mud.
